SUMMARY:Westside Vision Roundtable for CareerSource Broward Property on W OPB
DESCRIPTION:The City is moving toward purchasing the 5-acre CareerSource Broward property on W Oakland Park Blvd for $6.2M. The city has not stated its vision for the property\, but did state in the August 5 City Commission agenda that there are “redevelopment objectives”\, objectives which the city has not shared with the public. \nBecause we believe that OP stakeholders deserve a voice as we consider such a significant purchase\, we are hosting a Westside Vision roundtable at 6:30pm on August 27 at 2819 N Oakland Forest Dr. \nGiven its central location and proximity to I-95\, the coming Turnpike exit west of SR 7\, and the anticipated Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) route\, West OPB has the potential to be a hub for everyone in South Florida\, not just local residents. What do you want to see in OP? How do we turn this neglected corridor into a shining showpiece for our city? \nPlease plan to attend\, and share the flyer with your friends and neighbors\, and on social media. Join us on the 27th for an energizing community conversation about the possibilities — bring your hopes\, ideas\, and questions. Light refreshments will be served. \nLet’s build something great together!

SUMMARY:National Good Neighbor Day
DESCRIPTION:Save the date and start thinking about which project you would like to volunteer for on Saturday\, September 12. Registration opens July 30 for Oakland Park’s National Good Neighbor Day\, a citywide celebration of community\, connection\, and service. \nResidents\, families\, neighborhoods\, and community groups are invited to volunteer for a local project\, attend a community event\, or organize an activity of their own. It only takes a few hours to make a meaningful difference\, meet new people\, and help build a stronger\, more connected Oakland Park. \nTwo Ways to Participate\nVolunteer for a Community Project \nChoose from several hands-on projects taking place throughout the city: \n\nHomebound Food Delivery: Pack food from 10 to 11 a.m. and make deliveries from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.\nLakeside Sand Pine Preserve Cleanup: 9 to 11 a.m.\nMiddle River Waterway Cleanup: 9 to 11 a.m.\n\nAttend a Community Event \nShort on time? You can still take part in Neighbor Day by attending a community event. Additional activities are being added\, with confirmed events including: \n\nBroward County Pet Wellness Clinic: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.\nBackyard Composting Workshop: 2 to 4 p.m.\n\nHave an idea for bringing your neighbors together? Organize a cleanup\, donation drive\, block gathering\, or another community activity. Be sure to let the city know about your event so it can be included as part of Oakland Park’s National Good Neighbor Day celebration. \nWhether you volunteer\, attend an event\, or organize an activity in your neighborhood\, your participation will help make National Good Neighbor Day a success. Mark your calendar\, decide how you would like to get involved\, and be ready to register beginning July 30. For more information or to share your neighborhood event\, contact Carrie Mahadeo at 954-630-4506.
