City Manager Compensation Comparison

The city recently commissioned a City Manager Pay Analysis Report claiming that the City Manager’s compensation is “generally competitive within the regional market.” When comparing the nine Broward municipalities closest to Oakland Park with consideration to two metrics – population and the general fund of the budget – our City Manager’s salary is higher than any other comparable regional city.

The city’s assertion that our City Manager’s compensation is “generally competitive” and that a $330K–$345K annual salary is a reasonable target (which does not include his $106K retirement contribution) is based upon a peer group that includes cities two to four times Oakland Park’s size. A peer group more closely aligned with Oakland Park’s actual size tells a different story: Oakland Park has the highest-paid city manager among the most comparable municipalities in Broward County.
